Service

What is Service Learning?

It is “a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.” NSLC

Students have the opportunity to participate in many Service based activities both within our campus and in the wider community through  interacting with the elderly residents at local Aged Care Facilities through to volunteering to be part of our Early Bird Reader group or assisting with our smallest students at our Early Childhood Education Centre or those who require more assistance at our Learning Enrichment Centre.

What can be achieved through Service Learning?

  • Positive impact on academic outcomes such as demonstrated complexity of understanding, problem analysis, problem-solving, critical thinking, and cognitive development
  • Improves students’ ability to apply what they have learned in “the real world”
  • Greater sense of personal efficacy, personal identity, and moral development
  • Greater interpersonal development, particularly the ability to work well with others, and build leadership and communication skills
  • Reduced stereotypes and greater inter-cultural understanding
  • Improved social responsibility and citizenship skills
