As we come to the end of Term 1, parents will have noticed a flurry of activity as their children complete assessment tasks. This is particularly the case in Years 7-12, although students in Years 3-6 may have also been doing various tasks in class at school (‘learning snapshots’).
Last year we introduced HG Learn/HG Engage, powered by SEQTA, to assist in our overall communications. One aspect that we found most exciting was the ability to share assessment task notifications, and feedback, with both students and parents through the program. This means that parents, for example, should be able to receive a more continuous form of reporting than the traditional half yearly and yearly report (which continue).
The quickest way to keep track of assessments is to install the SEQTA Engage App on your smartphone. You then click on ‘Assessments’ on the side menu.
For Years 3-5, you will see feedback on Learning Snapshots once released by the teachers at the completion of marking.
For Years 6-12, you will see both the notification – when the task is ‘handed out’ – and the teacher’s feedback once the marking is finalised. Usually the students will also have completed a self-reflection on their learning, which we consider very important in the cycle of learning from assessments (or ‘assessment for learning’).
By now everyone will be ready for a break from assessments, and we express our appreciation for all the hard work students do with their teachers to advance their learning both in class, and at home.
