During May, students involved in one of our HG Voices programs began preparing for the 2026 Harvard Model United Nations Conference, hosted at the University of Technology Sydney. This four day international simulation centred around the theme of ‘Building Common Ground’ and provided a platform for students to engage in debates and craft innovative solutions to pressing global issues.
According to the HMUN website, HMUN is an exciting opportunity for young leaders to debate the most pressing issues of the day and to draft innovative, creative solutions. Participants will develop several skills throughout this process, including but not limited to: public speaking, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, and policy crafting.
True to the spirit of the United Nations, HMUN strives to foster a constructive forum for open dialogue on a range of complex issues, including international peace and security and economic and social progress. We ask delegates to think critically about the world around them and to think in new and ambitious ways.
The awards at HMUN are categorised by delegation size, with recognitions ranked from Best at the top, followed by Outstanding, and Honourable Mention. This year, a team of ten Hills Grammar students participated as delegates.
Impressively, a number of our students were awarded as the Best Delegate, including Yannis, Winston, Aarya and Jacob, while Ayesha and Tim both received Honourable Mentions.
Additionally, Jason, Prisha, Jai and Alana received praise for their noteworthy performances.
We are also thrilled to announce that, for the second consecutive year, Hills Grammar won the Best Delegation Award, marking the highest recognition for a delegation.
Accompanying teachers and HG Voice coordinators, Ms Sandy Alderson, Head of English, and Ms Marj Van Bever Donker, expressed their pride, stating, “We are so very proud of all our amazing students.”
