Junior School
During the Junior School years, Kindergarten to Year 6, we prepare our students for the future by fostering a deep love of learning and curiosity.
By providing a wide variety of hands-on experiences and enthusiastic teachers who have a deep understanding of child development our students are able to test and develop a number of talents from commencement.
Kindergarten - Year 6
With intentionally small class sizes, students enjoy a progressive blend of connected curriculum and specialist education.
Core skills in Literacy and Numeracy are taught by the classroom teacher, along with Inquiry which includes Science, Geography and History. Students enjoy lessons from specialist teachers in the Creative Arts (Music, Visual Arts and Drama) Personal Development Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), and Languages including French, Mandarin and Japanese.
Learning and teaching is delivered in a variety of ways using a mix of the latest digital technologies and the best of traditional methods; whole class, across grade and small groups. Differentiated groupings challenge students at the right level, while real world problem solving engages all students in the deeper learning that comes from the application of knowledge.
The woven nature of the program means there is collaboration across and between classrooms and subjects. This enhances the school experience and inspires a lifelong love of learning in our students.
Our Wellbeing Program in the Junior School is proactive and forward thinking. It centres around embedding Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) across every aspect of the school day. It is an integrated approach which is immersed into each student’s daily lived experience. A sense of self, emotional skills and social skills are at the core of SEL.
An emphasis on co-curricular activities enriches the Junior School experience. From Service Learning opportunities such as Student Representative Council, Project Change, and School leadership roles to mentoring and buddy programs, Junior School students are encouraged to support each other and leave the School in a better place. Music and creative arts opportunities are abundant with a number of choirs, orchestras, and ensembles available. Sporting opportunities include representative sport and optional weekend sport in local competitions.
