Throughout May, our school community came together for Media Mentor Month, a series of sessions focused on supporting families to navigate the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. Across six sessions, parents gained valuable insights into how AI is shaping children’s learning, wellbeing, and online experiences both at school and at home.
From building a strong foundation in AI and Your Child – What Every Parent Should Know, to exploring real-world challenges with experts from Ysafe, Linewize, and The Consent Lab, each session provided practical, research-informed strategies to support safe, responsible, and informed technology use. Our school psychologists added an important wellbeing perspective, helping families understand how to foster healthy habits and positive relationships with technology in an AI-influenced world.
A highlight for many was the interactive AI Playground, where parents stepped into their children’s digital world experimenting with AI tools, generating creative content, and gaining a deeper appreciation of both the opportunities and complexities these technologies present. It was fantastic to see parents connecting, sharing ideas, and learning alongside one another.
Alongside the sessions, families were invited to engage with our May Media Mentor Month Calendar, which provided 20 simple, practical activities designed to encourage conversations at home. The focus was on empowering parents to become mentors of online behaviour rather than simply policing it. It was wonderful to hear how families used these activities to spark meaningful discussions and build confidence in navigating the digital world together.
Parent feedback highlighted the impact of the series:
- “I loved all of the sessions, they were relevant and insightful. All parents would really benefit from listening in.”
- “Very interesting sessions.”
- “I learnt about setting up guardrails and systems at home as we move towards and age into the AI space with young children. Learning about different apps and their features was so helpful—it opened conversations that we hadn’t explored yet.”
We sincerely thank our parent community for their engagement, openness, and commitment to learning. Your partnership is essential as we work together to support children to thrive safely and confidently in an AI-driven world.
We look forward to continuing this important work and to welcoming you back for Media Mentor Month in May 2027.
