Junior School | May Media Mentor Month

This May, Junior School will be celebrating Media Mentor Month - dedicated to fostering a safer and more informed digital environment for our students and their families. Throughout this month, we have an exciting line up of activities and sessions designed to empower everyone as media mentors:

Calendar of at home activities:
Please view the calendar here which contains a wide range of activities for you to work through with your children at home. They focus on ways you can connect with your child about the online space.

Educational Sessions for Parents:
Join us for three engaging sessions led by members from school psychologist team, school leadership team and a police liaison officer. These sessions cover topics such as social media laws, digital footprints, and practical strategies for safe online experiences.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Lessons:
Our students will participate in SEL lessons specifically linked to online safety. These lessons aim to enhance their emotional intelligence and equip them with the skills needed to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.

Library Sessions on Internet Safety:
Our wonderful librarian has curated some internet safety books that will help spark meaningful conversations about online security. These will be read in your children’s weekly library sessions and shared with parents through the weekly bulletin as a follow up at home.

Classroom Sessions:
Our teachers will conduct interactive workshops in the classroom, emphasising responsible tech use, privacy settings, and respectful online behaviour.

Police Liaison Officer Address:
Senior Constable Ethan will speak directly to our students in Years 5 and 6, sharing valuable insights on staying safe online.

Why Media Mentors Matter

By becoming media mentors, we can collectively create a positive digital footprint. Let’s guide our children toward responsible tech habits, open communication, and empathy. We look forward to this empowering month, where together, we’ll champion digital literacy and safety leading our students and children to become good digital citizens.
