Dear Parent / Carer
As per the Assessment Schedule, students in Year 7 will be sitting their yearly examinations in Week 4 (2 – 6 November). The Year 7 yearly examinations represent an important first step in helping students to manage Senior School study and examination techniques. There is much value in students maintaining a disciplined focus through to the end of the examination period.
I will speak to Year 7 later this week about the School’s expectations regarding the yearly examinations. Essentially, the key message will be that students do their best to prepare and complete the examinations, so that the feedback received is as meaningful as possible.
As a way of introducing a formal examination period, Year 7 complete examinations in the core areas, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Latin (there is no examination for Japanese or French). This approach allows for a focus on these areas and a building up of capacity to manage a week of formal examinations.
A copy of the examination timetable is attached so that you can assist your child to prepare for what is on each day. If your child is sick on the day of an examination, please ensure that the school is notified as soon as possible so an alternative catch-up examination can be arranged.
Illness and COVID-19 Protocol
Please keep your child at home if they are sick. If a COVID-19 test is required, your child will need to stay at home until a negative test result has been obtained and send a copy of this to the School via email as clearance for return. We will then organise some catch up examinations wherever possible in Weeks 4-5.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Year 7 students the very best with their yearly examinations!
Yours sincerely
Geoff Gates | Director of Learning & Teaching Pre-K to 12
