YEAR 7 GEOGRAPHY | FIELDWORK PLACE AND LIVEABILITY
Year 7 Geography students have enjoyed learning in the Unit of Inquiry Place and Liveability. A vital feature of this study is to compare the liveability of places. Here our students undertook fieldwork by visiting Millers Point, Milsons Point, and Lavender Bay and were able to make informed judgments based on the primary data they collected about what makes a place more liveable than another. Valuable skills in recording data using instruments such as Lux Meters and Noise Monitors were very rewarding.
YEAR 8 GEOGRAPHY | INTERCONNECTIONS - TOURISM
Year 8 Geography students have studied the Unit of Inquiry Interconnections. Students have recently completed exploring tourism's impacts, particularly in view of the impacts of COVID on global tourist patterns.
YEAR 9 GEOGRAPHY | FIELDWORK BOTANY BAY WETLANDS, SEAGRASS BEDS AND OYSTERS
Year 9 Geography has launched into the Unit of Inquiry, Sustainable Biomes. Fieldwork conducted at Botany Bay Wetlands and oyster beds was a learning adventure filled with Soldier Crabs and other incredible sea creatures captured in the Sea Grasses. Muddy shoes and lots of happy students!
YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY | UNICEF AUSTRALIA HOST BETTER WORLD YOUTH SUMMIT
A first-time UNICEF Australia youth-led initiative, the Better World Youth Summit invited Year Geography 10 students from schools across Greater Sydney to the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning to hear their perspectives on what would make a better world for Australian children and to participate in discussions on important planning considerations on topics of wellbeing, mental health, equity, climate change, and sustainability. Well done to our Geographers for collaboratively sharing their aspirations for a better world.
YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY | FIELDWORK ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE AND MANAGEMENT - LONG REEF AND COLLAROY
There was great excitement and anticipation for our early morning departure. In our unit of Inquiry, we have explored the causes and impacts of both natural and human activity and the importance of understanding environmental change and management.
We compared and contrasted the dune ecology of Long Reef and Collaroy. The students could see how important the natural dune system was to the geographical processes along the coast. We concluded that there needs to be a balance between nature and humans to achieve sustainability. The recent storm activity has shown the importance and power of natural processes. The construction of the sea Wall at Collaroy Beach was a highlight where the students could see firsthand fieldwork as an example of a hard structure and its impacts.
YEAR 11 GEOGRAPHY | FIELDWORK- BIOPHYSICAL INTERACTIONS SOIL @ HILLS
The Year 11 Geography students worked diligently to collect and test soil samples from various locations around the school. The aim of the fieldwork was not only to see the properties of the soil but to also write an industry standard EPA report using the data collected on-site. Thank you to Kathy Jones from Fieldwork Connections for collaborating with us to develop a rich learning experience for our students.
YEAR 11 GEOGRAPHY | SENIOR GEOGRAPHY PROJECTS
The Year 11 Geography students worked enthusiastically over Terms 1-3 to complete their Senior Geography Projects. An exciting variety of topics demonstrates student interest and the scope of Geographical issues in our local area. We proudly showcased their work at the Senior Geography Project EXPO. Here the students presented to the school community, parents, and carers. The audience heard from our Geography Alumni Ambassadors, Patrick Hart, Class of 2016, and Sarah Wilson, Class of 2021, how they have continued their passion for Geography in their tertiary studies and chosen careers.
YEAR 12 GEOGRAPHY | GEOGRAPHY CLASS OF 2022
Wishing the class of 2022 Geography students the best as they continue preparing for the HSC Geography examination. Congratulations on the work, enthusiasm, and dedication shown thus far. Please note that there will be a Geography HSC holiday revision session in the first week of the October break, Tuesday 27th, 10.00 am - 12.00 pm.
