Supporting your EAL/D Students | PL Modules 2-5

Seshni Hudson | Head of EAL/D 

An experienced teacher and lead educator spanning 25 years, Seshni has in depth expertise in the field of literacy teaching across the K-12 context, with a particular focus on language development and second language acquisition. As an Educational Consultant for the Catholic School system (Parramatta Diocese) and Assistant Principal within the NSW Department of Education she has led this agenda across multiple school contexts. Seshni has since used this knowledge to develop a whole school response for EAL/D learners as the Head of Hills International Education. In conjunction with leading the teaching of the Stage 6 EAL/D English course, a major part of her role is to build teacher capacity across K-12 through the provision of professional learning, mentoring and supporting teachers in-situ and developing sustainable school processes from enrolment to programming and assessment. Seshni is committed to empowering our teachers at Hills Grammar to develop the knowledge, skills, and capacity to meet the complex language needs of our students within this culturally diverse setting. 

Qualifications: Master of Arts in TESOL, UTS, Bachelor of Education (Mathematics), UTS, Bachelor of Teaching (Primary), UTS 

Session Information

This course will be delivered Face-to-Face or Self-paced Online. To gain the five NESA Accredited PL hours, Teachers will need to complete all five modules. 

During our January 2024 Staff Days Seshni presented to both Junior and Senior School on the School’s EAL/D Teaching and Support Program. Teachers and Educators completed PL Module 1 entitled “Understanding and Identifying EAL/D Learners in your School”. Seshni is further supporting the professional learning of staff as they complete Modules 2-5 for those who would like to do this with her assistance and engage in a Q and A session. Otherwise, staff can complete this NESA/HG Accredited course online at their own time and pace.
