Basketball Club Presentation – Last Friday members of the Hills Grammar Basketball Club gathered on the outdoor courts in our Sports Precinct for an informal get together to recognise the achievements of our teams and individuals for the 2020/21 Summer Basketball Season that is played at Hills Hornets. One of the most pleasing elements of the evening was the presentation to our Under 22 boys’ team, this team has been involved with the club since they were 8 years old and have had the same coach Mr David Blakers and Manager Mrs Bindi Lilley for the last ten years. In this time the boys have won competitions and shared success and disappointment, but best of all they have formed long term friendships and it was evident to see this at the presentation congratulations to all involved in the team.

Congratulations to our Junior Girls Futsal team who won the Hills Zone (HZSA) Division B Grand Final on Wednesday afternoon against Rouse Hill 5-2. A fantastic end to the season for the girls who qualified for the final from 4th position and after last week’s thrilling semi-final, were able to continue on their roll, with a goal from the opening kick-off by Bella Srdanovic, Bella scored a few more goals and her powerful right foot is very hard to stop for any keeper. She was well supported by Alexa Romic and in defence and all the girls were excellent at keeping the Rouse Hill girls to only 2 goals. Congratulations to coach Mr O’Neil and to all the girls who have played during the season.

HZSA Primary Sport – the Primary Sport competitions are drawing to a close and our Year 5 and 6 teams have all now concluded with our girls Netball team finishing 5th overall, and the boys Football team 3rd in Div A and 4th in Div B. Our Year 3 and 4 teams play this Friday for a position in the finals and we wish them luck!

Congratulations to Vidur Subramaniam (Year 9) who competed in the Golf Regional Academy Games. Below is Vidur’s recount of the experience:

From 16 to 18 April I competed in the Regional Academy Games. This is a tournament in which regions of NSW such as Western Sydney Academy, Hunter Regional Academy etc compete against each other. This tournament was a 2 day tournament which was open aged. On the first day the weather was dreadful. I experienced clubs slipping out of my hand, my pants soaking wet and my umbrella was flying all over the place. I managed to minimise the damage with a solid score of +2, this put me in the top 5. With the scores so congested at the top of the leader board, I had to play well to hold my position. The next day was the complete opposite, quite sunny and warm. When the game started I was scared and trying to maintain my position. For some reason the ball was not dropping until the back nine. I was even through nine with 2 birdies and 2 bogies. My position was still the same until the back nine where I scored 4 birdies and 2 bogies. Overall I finished at even. I finished the round and was congratulated by numerous people. The feeling of playing the best round of your life is priceless. This took me to 2nd place overall for stoke the winner shooting-5 and being a 17 year old who had played for the NSW state team. Our team had won the tournament by many shots.
Being the No.1 player after the two rounds at WSAS and coming first as a team at the Academy Sports, led to the meeting with the Parramatta Lord Mayor Mr Bob Dwyer. It was an absolute honour to meet the Lord Mayor. The main points I took away is that he is always willing to help and encourage young talent and offering assistance such as financial support to participate in training etc. I got to take photos and have a light humorous conversation with him.
I am truly delighted to have met the Lord Mayor and am super privileged to have this experience.
