Room 4 - Thursday and Friday

Room 4 children in the Thursday and Friday program have had a wonderful and exciting term at ECEC. Term 1 has had a strong focus in assisting children to feel safe and secure in their environment. To this end, the curriculum has provided opportunities for the children to explore their interests, ideas as well as extend on their thinking, and most importantly increase their social emotional skills as they settle into a new environment.

The children have had a variety of different interests and wonderings this term. They have been interested in learning about families, insects, bugs, animals and transport. Spontaneous happenings have also created very memorable experiences in Room 4 this term. A hailstorm at ECEC earlier this term sparked great interest in weather and transport, and as a result the children became very interested in creating boats using wooden blocks during free play experiences. This inquiry was further explored through the curriculum, providing children with opportunities to increase their understanding of why ice falls from the sky and why boats float. The children enjoyed this process and they began applying what they learnt into their play experiences.

Term 1 has also included some exciting celebrations of events that the children were actively involved in. The children have felt confident to participate in intentional teaching experiences for Waitangi Day, Australia Day and St Patrick’s Day which has increased their understanding about cultures and diversity. We are looking forward to being a part of more cultural diversity experiences throughout the year.

Overall, Term 1 has brought so much happiness and joy by the children in Room 4. Educators in Room 4 are excited to be a part of the learning journey with the children and are looking forward to sharing these experiences with the community at Hills Grammar.
