From the Principal

The Annual Report is a public document, produced each year to provide the School and wider community with information about Hills Grammar during the preceding year of operation. This Report has been prepared in respect to the 2018 school year.

The School reports to, and engages frequently with its community, through face to face interactions, newsletters and other publications, but the Annual Report brings together in one place, for the audience's interest and information, key achievements and indicators of our success as a school.

Much of 2018’s strategic agenda perhaps progressed unnoticed, but significant changes to the organisational structure, investment in ICT and other infrastructure, recruitment of staff with different skills and experiences and constant review of policy and practice was a major focus of 2018. This occurred on top of our unwavering commitment to outstanding teaching and inspired learning, which after all is our core business, professional responsibility and privilege. Strategic organisational changes were made to facilitate and enhance learning outcomes, build relationships and ensure the foundations upon which we are building are secure, sustainable and strong, and with the express purpose of improving communication, productivity and service.

We sometimes underestimate, or over dream, what can be achieved in one year; but I won’t apologise for that, as dreaming, hope, ambition, aspirations and purpose sustain us and will continue to inform the future plans for the School and for the children and young people who attend as students now and into the future.

Annual agendas are set each year but one constant is that we live in a world of change and as such we are in the business of change – change of our students:

  • from children to young adults
  • from dependent to independent
  • from cared for to carers
  • from lead to leaders
  • from ECEC to Year 12

Without change, without difference, without contrast, perspectives and alternatives – we stagnate.

Without education we stagnate.

To ensure the School remains relevant and responsive to the changing needs of our students and the world they will inherit, we must not sit still or rest on our laurels. To quote Charles Darwin: ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change’. I intend for Hills Grammar and our students to survive, thrive and flourish by our being responsive to change. We need to embrace and view change as an opportunity for richer learning and broadened outcomes. It ensures we grow as individuals, as a community and as a School.

I am confident that in 2018 there was abundant evidence that our students have received an extraordinary education and that our School has been true to its Mission ‘Outstanding teaching within a unique learning environment fostering each students potential for greatness’. I publicly acknowledge all students, staff, parents, School Council and partners and thank all who have contributed to the attainment of the outcomes reported in this Annual Report.

I commend the 2018 Annual Report to you.
