New Leader Program

New Leader Induction Program

At Hills Grammar we value the opportunity to support and grow our new leaders. This includes leaders new to the school, as well as those who are promoted to leadership from within the School.

The Leadership Induction Program at The Hills Grammar School seeks to welcome staff new to leadership at HG into our vibrant, dynamic, innovative and inclusive learning community.

Effective leadership at the School is crucial to forwarding our vision of Extraordinary Education and to further enhance our capacity to provide outstanding teaching within our core student learning programs – Academic, Student Wellbeing and Co-curricular.

Educational research clearly and consistently indicates that leadership at all levels has a direct impact on student learning outcomes, including the Principal (Leithwood, 2007; Dinham, 2005), Executive (Marzano, 2003) and Middle Leaders (Dinham, 2008). At Hills Grammar we work strategically and collegially to support teachers as they endeavour to be outstanding practitioners within our unique learning environment.

The new leader program is customised to meet each leader where they are at in their leadership experience, practice, development aspirations, encouraging leaders,& teachers and support staff to be fully engaged professionals. Our goals are both aspirational and practical:

  • Build staff capacity to respond to growing needs and expectations of students and parents
  • Develop and value staff capability and nurture their skills, resourcefulness and creativity to change and improve the School.
  • Engender a spirit of research and enquiry in order to develop staff capacity to& lead, innovate and improve
  • Recruit and retain the highest quality staff
  • Challenge staff to undertake professional learning which provides access to world best practice in teaching and enables them to be recognised as educational leaders.

New leaders are encouraged to refer to the School’s Staff Profile and Standards, as provided during the New Staff Induction Program.

The Leadership Induction Program is just the first step in welcoming new leaders into their new role, whether as a result of internal promotion or joining us for the first time. The program is tailored to the specific requirements and leadership portfolio of each new leader and includes:

  1. School orientation
  2. Leadership orientation
  3. Role orientation
  4. Collegiality and support
  5. Ongoing professional learning
