Kindergarten-Year 4 – fixed lesson times each week. Tutors should, in all cases, consult with junior school teachers and parents/carers to find a suitable lesson time. No lessons are to be scheduled between 9am and 11am each day. At an appropriate time, tutors may recommend that a student move to a rotational timetable, upon approval from the Head of Music.
Years 5 and 6 - rotating timetable on a weekly basis. Tutors should, in all cases, consult with junior school teachers and parents/carers to find a suitable lesson time. No lessons are to be scheduled between 11:20am and 1:20pm each day. Parents/Carers may request a fixed lesson time. Fixed lesson times must be approved by the Head of Music for no more than 2 consecutive semesters
Years 7 - 10 – rotating timetable on a weekly basis. Timetable to be scheduled for rotating timetable only. Tutors should, in all cases, consult with parents/carers to find a suitable lesson time. Parents/Carers may request a fixed lesson time outside of class time (before school, recess, lunch, after school). Fixed lesson times must be approved by the Head of Music for no more than 2 consecutive semesters.
Years 11 - 12 - rotating or fixed lesson times on a weekly basis. Fixed lesson times should only be scheduled during free periods or at times outside of the normal timetable. Fixed lessons at other times must be approved by the Head of Music. In all cases, fixed lesson times for students in Years Eleven and Twelve should be communicated to the Music Assistant for checking against timetables.
Notes: Music tutors will make every effort to accommodate individual requests for lesson times, where possible. Lessons held before school, recess, lunch and after school are requested frequently. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to accommodate these requests. Individual lessons can be scheduled between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, to allow for adequate supervision.
New students should come to the music office to enrol in the program or to check lesson times. Music Lesson Record Books will be replaced only when needed. The charge of $7.50 per book will be added to the school account accordingly. Parents are reminded to contact Tamsin Fraser-Crooks in the music office on 9654 5159, on Monday, Wednesday – Friday only, for information about the private music lesson program.
Music Co-Curricular Ensembles – Band, Choir, Strings…..
We look forward to seeing many new faces in our ensembles over the coming weeks. New students should come to the rehearsal and make themselves known to the teacher concerned or see your class music teacher or private tuition teacher. If you have any questions, come to the music office and ask for further information.
Achievements
Congratulations to Ethan Redman, Year 10, who has been accepted into the SYO Symphonic Wind Orchestra on the trombone. We look forward to hearing and seeing Ethan in concert performances in the near future.
Students who undertake music examinations or are involved in performances and competitions outside of school are invited to advise the music department of their achievements so these can be acknowledged in the school newsletter. Please email details to music@hillsgrammar.nsw.edu.au and we will endeavour to make the next newsletter.
