Mark Yeowell

Head of Junior School, Mark Yeowell, presented “The Whole World in their Hands - Smartphones and Tweens: Towards Understanding Digital Pubertyto educational leaders, teachers and researchers at the University of New South Wales. As part of the Doctorate of Education Program, Mark is conducting research into the experiences of Year 5 to 8 students when they get their first smartphone and framing this period as ‘digital puberty’. As part of Mark’s research, he will explore where, when and how 10 to 14 year olds are using their smartphones, particularly with social media, and the impact on their wider life. Potential impact areas include the face-to-face interactions with family and peers, engagement in other leisure activities, schoolwork, reading and how this in turn may influence their education, social emotional development, wellbeing and mental health.
