Introducing Coaching to Our Community!

We now have three certified coaches at HG, who have gained certification through Growth Coaching International (GCI).

During 2024 the coaches will be working with staff who have joined one of our three bespoke HG Leadership Programs:

  • Aspiring to Leadership: Support Staff Program
  • Aspiring to Middle Leadership Program
  • Aspiring to Executive Leadership Program

Dr Chris Furner, PhD | Director of Professional Learning Pre-K-12

Chris has held a number of teaching and leadership positions across State and Independent schools. A career highlight has been the completion of a PhD on how to boost teacher and leadership learning across all career stages as a means to improve practice, support staff wellbeing and resilience and accelerate student learning outcomes. She enjoys developing whole-school staff development initiatives and professional learning and leadership programs that inspire and encourage teachers and leaders as they serve their school communities.  

Sarah Black | Head of Junior School 

Sarah Black has worked in a variety of Independent Schools across her career in education. Her experience includes the delivery of inclusive curriculum within mainstream settings for students with a wide variety of individual needs. Soon after completing her early career years as a teacher, Sarah began to serve her school communities as a leader of special education initiatives. She is passionate about all students from Early Childhood to Year 12 Teachers having equal access to curriculum and wellbeing programs within their school communities. As an Alumnus, Sarah enjoys reflecting upon aspects of Hills Grammar that are special, like ways in which the School has always valued the ’Hills Original’. She has also been the Metropolitan Co-ordinator of ASPECT (Autism Spectrum Australia) School Outreach program across Sydney and liaised with parents within Western Sydney establishing family centred behaviour management for students with Autism .

Sarah Warby | Leader of Professional Growth

Sarah is an English, Languages and History teacher and is currently the Leader of Professional Growth at The Hills Grammar School. Her previous experiences include teaching, leadership and consulting roles across all schooling sectors in metropolitan and regional areas along with international schools and universities in Asia and the USA. She is passionate about supporting teachers' professional growth and practice to develop efficacy and motivation for themselves and their students and the use of innovative technologies for effectively affective schools, these are also key aspects of research within her Masters in Cognitive Psychology and Educational Practice.
