HSIE Roundup

The 2018 academic year has started with a flurry of enthusiasm from both teachers and students. It has been exciting to witness the high degree of engagement from students and a special thank you to parents/caregivers for organising textbooks and all other stationery requirements.

The subjects taught under the umbrella of HSIE at Hills in the Senior School include Extension History in Year 12,  Ancient History, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, Legal Studies and Modern History in Years 11 and 12, , Commerce in Years 9 and 10 and Geography and History in Years 7 – 10.  The HSIE teachers are experienced and as such teach a range of these subjects across various years. There are a range of drop-ins offered to Year 12 students to attend. These sessions support the learning that is occurring in the classroom and often offer a specific literacy approach. Students are encouraged to attend. Below are the times and places;

Business Studies – Tuesday 7.45 – 8.30am in H5 and Thursday, 3.30 – 4.30 in H7

Economics – Wednesday 7.45 – 8.40am in H8 and Thursday 7.45 – 8.40 in Nexus

Legal Studies – Friday 7.45 – 8.30 in H4

Students in Years 7 – 11 who would like assistance are encouraged to come to the staffroom to ask for help.

In the weeks ahead, a number of excursions have been planned for Geography classes and we are looking forward to being able to immerse the students in real life experiences directly related to their course content.

Should you have any questions or concerns an email or phone call will always be welcome.
