From the Head of Senior School

As Term 3 draws to a close a significant part of our School community says farewell to Hills Grammar. We bid a fond farewell to the Class of 2023 this week. For a sizeable number of our students this is the only school they have ever known and for some it’s been their second home since they were 3 years old, being amongst our first ever ECEC students. Leaving schools is an important rite of passage in a young person’s live, they leave the familiar and the secure and embark on new and varied journeys. Some of our Year 12s will venture far and wide and others will stay close to home, regardless though for all of them the end of school marks one of the most significant transitions in their lives.

The class of 2023 will have many memories of their school days. They are part of the generation who experienced schooling during lockdown, enduring this at a very formative part of their lives and they have also been part of the transition that has seen the way technology is used in schools radically change. They are old enough to remember a time when laptop technology was absent from many classrooms but young enough to have experienced its universal adoption. This and so many more experiences form the people they are and will become.

For each of our students we wish them the very best of success.  I remind them that Hills Grammar will always have a place for them and encourage them to stay connected with our community. It’s been wonderful to see many of Year 12 students achieve early offers across many different fields and universities. These offers reflect the wide range of skills and attributes Hills Grammar graduates exit our School with. Of course, I know that I speak for all of our community when I wish the Class of 2023 the very best of luck for their final HSC examinations which will begin during Week 1 of Term 4.

This term has seen many achievements and it is one of my great pleasures to stand at assembly each fortnight and acknowledge so many of our students as they receive awards. I was very excited to recently hand out 35 High Distinction certificates to students across Years 7 to 12 for their performance in the Australian Geography Competition. Special mention must be made of Ishaan Ambardar of Year 7 who was placed in the top 1% of the more than 65000 students sitting this competition. Being a passionate Geographer I am so pleased to see our students performing at this highest of levels in such as prestigious competition, well done to them and our Geography Department.

Congratulations too to our Intermediate Netball Team who are the Baulkham Hills Netball  Association Premiers for 2023. Mrs Yager and I had a wonderful time supporting the girls last Saturday and they played in the scorching afternoon sun at Kellyville Netball Complex. The girls showed great persistence to fight from behind in the last quarter, with the final goal clinching the premiership coming with just seconds the spare! To see girls from different grades coming together with a never give in attitude was a great sign of Hills values at their best.

Term 4 is always a busy and exciting term. There is much to look forward to. I am very excited to be working with students and staff to plan our 2nd House Spirit Day which will be held on Monday 20 November. Stay tuned for lots more information on this during the first weeks of Term 4.

For all those families travelling this break, have a safe and happy holidays!
