From the Head of Senior School

On Friday last week Year 7 2020 students spent the day experiencing Senior School through our Taster Day. It was great to see so many students participate in this day and to have our students from Hills Grammar Junior School meet and socialise with our students joining Hills Grammar was amazing to see. While the students were busy having fun in their lessons I took the opportunity to take a large group of parents around the Senior School. They were all most impressed with how all the classes in action were progressing and making specific comments about how well the students interacted with each other as well as with the teacher. This showcased the very thing we celebrate as a strength of the School and that is the positive relationships between all which leads to positive and enhanced learning environments.

On Tuesday evening we had the opportunity for our Year 7 2020 parents to hear about the Senior School and meet the Heads of House – key people in each student's journey through Senior School. I would like to share with you a section of my speech from the evening as I believe these are aspects of the School which all members of our community should appreciate and celebrate:

Let me just talk about the extraordinary for a minute: What do we mean when we talk about extraordinary education: In many ways I am stating the reasons why you have chosen Hills Grammar, however these are reasons worth repeating

If you are looking for the place where your child will have specialist teachers who know your child’s strengths and weaknesses academically – then we have that for you.

If you are looking for the place that will offer individual support for those who need it emotionally, academically and /or socially – then we have it through our house mentors.

If you are looking for the place that has a teacher who will get to know your child as part of the House system and have them develop a real passion for their House – then we have it through our Heads of House.

If you are looking for the place that will offer individual learning plans and scaffolding through our learning enrichment – then we have that as well through our Learning Enrichment Team.

If you are looking for the environment that offers extraordinary opportunities through co-curricular, leadership and service then we have that through our co-curricular and leadership and service programs.

If you are looking for a place that has a strong wellbeing focus with a curriculum that supports your child through the different stages of Senior School – then we have that led by our Head of Student Well-Being and her team of staff.

If you are looking for a place where the students are happy, can laugh together, learn together and grow together then this is obviously the place.

All of the above along with a million other reasons combine to give you the Extraordinary Education where we are proud to develop Extraordinary Individuals.

These reasons are also the very aspects of the very personal learning journey each of our students experience as they progress through the School from ECEC to Year 12, not just in the Senior School.
