The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an international award scheme, which provides students the opportunity to develop essential life skills, increase their employability and foster their creativity and innovation.
The Award is comprised of three levels and four sections. The students will complete all four sections at each level in order to achieve either their Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. At Gold level, the students also complete a Residential Project.
The four sections are Service; Physical Recreation; Skill and an Adventurous Journey. Students are required to participate in each of the first three sections 1 hour per week for 13 weeks (Bronze level). In addition, students are required complete an additional 13 weeks for a major section, which can be either Service, Skill or Physical Recreation.
All students in Year 9, at Hills Grammar, are required to participate in this award at the Bronze level. To support the students in this endeavour the recent School camp met the Adventurous Journey requirements for the Bronze Award level. The students will now continue with the Award by selecting and participating in an activity for each of the three sections.
Hills Grammar has a long history of students who have gone on to complete both Silver and Gold Awards. These students’ accomplishments are recognised at the Annual School Presentation of Awards.
