Clone of Creative, Spoken and Performing Arts

The Senior School Musical provides an opportunity for actors, singers, dancers and orchestra to take part in a music theatre production of a high standard. Cast members will be rehearsing each week during Terms 1 and 2. Evening performances will be held mid-year. Cast and orchestra members will be utilising the co-curricular period each Thursday as part fulfilment of their commitment to the production.

The game of chess is over 1300 years old and is one of the oldest and most popular games in the world. Chess is a two-player strategy game between two armies with 16 pieces for each player. The objective of the game is to place the opponent's King into checkmate, which means the King is trapped. Chess is easy to learn, but can take a lifetime to master. At Chess Club, students have the opportunity to play on an iPad (Years 1-2) or their personal school laptop (Years 3-6) using the ‘ChessKid’ app. They can play a robot or their classmates on the app and learn strategies and skills to improve their game. Students in the Senior Years 7-11 will engage in Chess matches with their fellow students. Experienced Chess players can learn from a Chess Master from the Sydney Academy of Chess who runs our Competitive Chess group.

Drama Ensembles and after school programs are run by our dedicated Drama teachers for all students from Years 5-12. Students are given opportunities to learn stage and performance skills and several performance opportunities take place throughout the year in our dedicated BlueBox Theatre. A Stage Crew group is also available where students learn all aspects of the technical skills required with live theatre productions. Students receive instructions on how to use the lighting and sound systems, design and build sets. They are given an opportunity to develop these skills working on the various performances during the year.

Debating is a rich tradition at Hills Grammar and students from both our Junior and Senior schools are given the opportunity to compete with other Schools in Debating competitions throughout the year.

Italian and Spanish Languages are offered as a part of our after school Co-curricular Program. These classes are run on campus by teachers from The Language Company.
