Barnaby explains, “When I was 25 with a promising career ahead of me in the Sydney Swan’s squad I was bashed and knocked out in an alcohol-fueled, one punch attack which resulted in a stroke. My learning to do every-day, simple activities started all over again. However, in the following few years I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, walked the Kokoda track, and played my 100th game of footy.
At 35 years old I lost my beautiful wife Angela, to breast cancer.
I have learned plenty of lessons over the years, many of them during my time as a student at Hills Grammar – and now I want to come back and share some of those things with the Hills community.”
Barnaby is currently on an international speaking tour taking his story of real human resilience to real people in local communities; A REAL bloke telling a REAL story. He has spoken to people all over the world about how his experiences (devastating, challenging and joyous) have created resilience, strength and positivity. Thanks to the generosity of Hills Grammar, Barnaby will be giving a free 30 minute presentation in the R J Phipps Performance Centre at 5pm on May 10.
“So please come along and listen to what I have to say about the resilience you already possess to deal with what life throws at you. If you have absolutely no interest in building resilience, just come to learn how to be proud of being an everyday Joe Bag O’Doughnuts.”
