Barnaby Howarth

Class of 1997

Barnaby, school captain from the Class of 1997, has had a diverse and inspiring journey of resilience and survival. He is a Hills Grammar Partner in Learning and has accomplished several notable achievements. He published an autobiography, completed a journalism diploma, walked the challenging Kokoda Track, and filmed two documentaries in Africa, one of which involved climbing Kilimanjaro with his sister and a former footy mate.

In his sports career, Barnaby played AFL for the Sydney Swans and made a remarkable comeback to play his hundredth game for his local footy club after recovering from a major injury and stroke.

Barnaby is a motivational speaker and a supporter of juvenile diabetes through the DANII Foundation. He authored a book called 'Playing In The Puddles' and developed 'Give It A Crack,' a yearly show to raise funds for the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. He also hosts a web series called 'Everyday Greatness,' which showcases extraordinary resilience in others.

Barnaby is a real human being telling a real story, who, despite enduring some of the toughest experiences life has thrown at him, continues forward with a positive attitude and employs his experiences to support and showcase others.

Barnaby’s message is that just being a good, solid human being is enough to live a life you are proud of and is a REAL point of difference in today's ever competitive world.
