Can you provide an overview of your career journey so far?
After graduating from The University of Canberra with a Tourism Management Marketing degree, I spent 5 years in Europe working in the industry but also being a nomad experiencing all that I could. In 2007 I completed a Master's degree at Oxford Brookes University in Tourism: Environment and Development and then a stint in Corporate Travel Management in Sydney as a Business Development Manager however my heart was in Leisure travel so I embarked on a path into the expedition cruise industry working in Business Development for Orion Expeditions and then Quark Expeditions and then I went on to start my own wholesale cruise company called Micro-Cruising in 2013. We sell yacht charters and set departure cruises on the world's smallest vessels of 100 passengers or fewer. We managed to make it through Covid which feels like an achievement in itself.
What inspired you to pursue this career path?
Travel is an obsession of mine and always has been. "The great affair is to move" Robert Louis Stevenson. I remember seeing Everest from my plane window when I was part of the World Expeditions Nepal trip with THGS back in 1998/99 and had the epiphany that this is what I wanted to do for a living. I was lucky enough to have travel-enthusiast parents who took me to many places in my childhood. Shout out to my parents who paid for all our family trips.
