Why Choose a Hills Grammar Education?

A Hills Grammar education celebrates each student’s unique abilities, inspiring them to discover their interests, talents, and passions, and to strive for excellence in everything they do.

It is our aim to produce curious, creative and critical thinkers, lifelong learners, engaged problem solvers.

Intentionally Small Class Sizes

With intentionally small class sizes and peer groups, Hills Grammarians receive personalised attention and individualised learning.

We appreciate that every child and young person is different. Our aim is to discover, nurture, and expand each student’s passions, skills, and potential, preparing them to enter the world as confident, accomplished individuals.

In our Junior School, class sizes (of up to 20) and year groups (of up to 80) enable teachers to genuinely know each child, and to tailor teaching and learning experiences to meet their needs; providing the perfect balance of challenge and support.

Our Senior School has intentionally smaller year groups of up to 120, a size which we believe is ideal to provide a personalised experience, one that ensures all children are well-known and supported in all aspects of their learning.

Co-education

From our beginning, we have been ‘intentionally’ co-educational, with the firm belief that children learn and develop better in an environment where all genders are represented.

We consider co-education a natural choice that enhances community, identity, and personal understanding, fostering traits like tolerance, respect, and cooperation alongside academic knowledge.

Co-educational settings are seen as natural environments where children learn collaboratively, exchanging ideas and developing mutual respect. Such environments challenge sexist attitudes, reflecting the diversity of society and preparing students for real-world interactions.

Diverse and inclusive

From our beginning, we’ve embraced innovative thinking and fresh perspectives. In a landscape where independent schools often adhered to tradition, religion, and single-sex education, our founders charted a different course for learning, unbound by religious affiliation.

Today, we stand as a beacon of diversity and inclusivity; a vibrant community of different cultures, faiths, abilities, strengths, and passions. Our student body reflects a rich tapestry of international backgrounds, preparing graduates for the diverse global landscape they will navigate in their lives and careers.

Bound together by our core values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence (R.I.S.E), we collaborate to nurture principled individuals and are dedicated to the holistic wellbeing of every child and young person under our care.

Personalised Learning Journey

As a Pre-K to 12 school on one campus, Hills Grammar provides a unique opportunity for students to move smoothly from one stage to the next on their educational journey.

Our whole school pedagogical statement, Deeper Water, Deeper Learning, offers a solid foundation to anchor Learning and Teaching Pre-K to Year 12 and provides for academic rigour, challenge and differentiation throughout the learning journey. At the core of Deeper Water, Deeper Learning is Guided Inquiry.

Guided Inquiry remains the central tenet of Learning and Teaching acknowledging the natural curiosity of our students, whilst also imbuing in them a deep appreciation for lifelong learning.

Campus

At Hills Grammar, Pre-school to Year 12 occupy the same leafy campus, a truly unique learning environment, set amongst 53 acres of beautiful bushland. With no high-rise buildings, and no school bells, our students enjoy bright, contemporary learning spaces within an inspiring natural environment.
Our exceptional facilities include climate controlled classrooms, state of the art science and innovation spaces, industrial technology workshop, hospitality kitchen, dedicated performance spaces, art studios, gymnasium and fitness centre and a sports precinct which includes an all-weather FIFA sized field.

Student Agency and Voice

To ensure our young people are prepared to meet the future with courage, with agency and with a belief that they can make a difference, we need to expand their learning beyond the classroom.

The Hills Education Passport for the Future provides this opportunity through alternative credentialling that recognises that each child is far more than a grade. From ECEC to Year 12, the Passport recognises what students can achieve both in school and beyond the school gates – in terms of deeper learning or co-curricular achievements.

Hills Education Passport points are awarded based on the accumulation of micro-credentials across four domains, aligned with our School values. As an official Hills Grammar certification, students will be able to validate what they have achieved and demonstrated beyond the curriculum.
