Music

The Hills Grammar Music faculty offers a wide range of co-curricular ensembles for instrumentalists and vocalists in all years. Each year, new students are placed into an ensemble appropriate for their age and practical level through informal auditions.

Performance is the ultimate goal for all music co-curricular ensembles. Opportunities include junior lunchtime concerts, performance evenings, school social occasions, community events and appearances at the annual Music Showcase and Presentation of Awards. We believe that involvement in the Hills Grammar music program will provide many opportunities to extend and develop each student’s musical enjoyment and skills.

Choirs and Vocal Groups

There are many choirs and vocal groups for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Each group offers the opportunity for students to rehearse with their peers and perform at school events and assemblies.

Instrumental Groups

Instrumental groups are offered to students from our youngest ECEC students through to Year 12. Opportunities are available in Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Strings and range from beginner bands through to our most experienced players in our Senior Concert Band, Senior Orchestra and Stage Band.

Our groups are invited to perform at many events on the School calendar throughout the year and are also involved in various community events.

Music Camps & Festivals

The Senior Music Camp is held in Term 4 each year and provides ensembles with an opportunity to rehearse for upcoming performances including the Annual Presentation of Awards. All students take part in workshops with guest musicians, as well as an engaging student concert and wellbeing program.

HICES Music Festival is a combined schools event organised by the Heads of Independent Co-Educational Schools. The Festival is held at The Tops Conference Centre and Sydney Town Hall. Students involved in the Festival are placed into an instrumental or choral ensemble and rehearse for the Festival Concert, held on a Wednesday evening in August at the Sydney Town Hall. The Festival program run on a biennial basis, with the Years 5-8 Festival and Jazz Academy in one year, followed by the Years 7-12 and World Music Academy in the following year.
