Leadership Service

Leadership Vision – To create a culture of leadership at the School – where all students have a deep understanding of ‘servant leadership’, possess a belief that they can lead and actively embrace the opportunities we create for them to do so.

Leadership is an important and fundamental facet of every student’s education at Hills Grammar.
We believe that every student should graduate with the belief, skills and tools to make a difference in their world. A leader is more than someone with a badge, title or position of authority, but rather a person with the dedication and courage to speak up and take action on issues that affect our community. Hills Grammar has a comprehensive Leadership Program that ensures every student has the opportunity to enhance their skills and participate in powerful and meaningful leadership experiences.

Student Leadership

Hills Grammar Student Leaders, appointed in both our Junior and Senior Schools, play a key role in supporting and guiding the student body.

They foster a sense of identity, spirit, and belonging within their respective Houses, advocate for all students, represent the School’s public image, and uphold its traditions and values. Students have numerous opportunities to join the Student Leadership team at Hills Grammar, whether as a Prefect, Co-Curricular Captain, House Captain, or School Captain.

Leaders are expected to align with, embody, express, and enact the School’s Ethos and Character. Effective leadership is crucial for optimising student learning and wellbeing as we strive to fulfill our aspirations for them, as outlined in our Graduate Aim, and inspire them to achieve more than they believed possible as ‘Originals’.

Student Leadership allows students to:

  • work as a member of a team
  • develop and build positive relationships, between peers and teachers
  • contribute to the school community
  • use their voice responsibly
  • value the perspectives and opinions of others
  • participate in decision-making.

Service Learning

Students have the opportunity to participate in many Service based activities both within our campus and in the wider community.

Service Learning opportunities are wide ranging and include interacting with elderly residents at the local Aged Care Facilities to volunteering to be part of our Early Bird Reader group or assisting our smallest students at our Early Childhood Education Centre.

What can be achieved through Service Learning?

  • Positive impact on academic outcomes such as demonstrated complexity of understanding, problem analysis, problem-solving, critical thinking, and cognitive development
  • Improves students’ ability to apply what they have learned in “the real world”
  • Greater sense of personal efficacy, personal identity, and moral development
  • Greater interpersonal development, particularly the ability to work well with others, and build leadership and communication skills
  • Reduced stereotypes and greater inter-cultural understanding
Improved social responsibility and citizenship skills
