Hills Grammar Enhances Educational Opportunities Through Microcredentials Programs

Community, Student Voice

Hills Grammar is committed to providing innovative educational experiences that prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving world. As part of this commitment, we have established invaluable partnerships with HEX and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), focusing on microcredentialing programs that empower our students to gain practical skills and recognition beyond the traditional classroom setting.

HEX High Accelerator Program

In 2024 we launched a new partnership with HEX, which introduced the HEX High Accelerator program for selected Senior School students. This fully online initiative allows students to explore the realms of innovation and entrepreneurship through their personal passions and interests. Over just a few hours each week, students will develop critical creativity and problem-solving skills while learning about innovative technologies and the dynamics of the startup world.

Led by industry mentors, including professionals from organisations such as Atlassian, TEDx, and Google, the program offers students a rich and relevant learning experience. Participants will also interact and collaborate with peers from across the country and around the globe, gaining insights and perspectives that extend their learning. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from the University of Sydney, which can serve as Recognition of Prior Learning when applying to universities, streamlining their academic journey and potentially saving them time and money.

Principal Karen Yager expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This program aligns perfectly with our mission to grow minds and discover passions. We aim to inspire our students to pursue their interests and develop the skills necessary for meaningful contributions to society.”

TD School at University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Microcredential Program

In addition to the partnership with HEX, Hills Grammar has previously collaborated with the TD School at UTS to offer microcredentials that equipped our students with valuable qualifications.  In 2024, 51 of our Year 10 students successfully completed the UTS microcredential program, granting them advanced standing toward their university studies.

These microcredentials not only recognise students’ achievements but have also provided them with essential skills that are highly valued in today’s workforce. By working alongside climate scientists and engineers, these students collaborated on developing innovative solutions to challenges that could hinder our goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2035. This hands-on, real-world experience reinforces our commitment to fostering future-ready graduates who are prepared to tackle global challenges.

We believe that these partnerships with HEX and UTS represent a significant step forward in enhancing educational excellence at Hills Grammar. Our students benefit from engaging with leading experts and participating in cutting-edge research, ensuring that their learning experiences are rich, relevant, and impactful.
