Academic Endeavour
Supporting rigorous academic programs and high expectations for all students are:
- An Early Childhood Education Centre for 3 – 4 year olds with programs based on the world-renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program which recognises that children are born with an innate sense of curiosity and wonder about the world in which they live
- A Comprehensive Learning Enrichment Program providing support and a differentiated curriculum for students with individual learning needs, including Gifted and Talented programs
- Uninterrupted morning lessons for context-rich literacy and numeracy development in the Junior School, with Learning Enrichment staff providing additional in-class support
- Specialist teachers in our Junior School, including Languages, Music PDHPE and Visual Arts
- A research-based and rigorous approach to numeracy development in the Junior School based on the Learning in Early Numeracy (K - 2) and Learning in Numeracy (3 – 6) programs
- A wide range of incursion and excursion activities to support and enrich classroom programs
- A “continuous improvement” approach to curriculum development, with current major projects in:
- use of Digital Story Telling to enhance learning in the Junior School
- implementation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program in the Junior School
- implementation of an inquiry-based “learners’ questions” pedagogy in our Senior School
- An integrated approach to the use of technology to support learning, including the use of interactive whiteboards, and a broad range of contemporary learning technologies
- An online learning management system providing students with access to key resources and opportunities to learn beyond the classroom
- Academic Honours Programs to develop advanced thinking and intellectual curiosity, and extend the learning of our most able students in
- Years 7 – 8: Humanities (integrated English, History, Latin), Mathematics, Environmental Science (integrated Science and Geography)
- Years 9 – 10: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography
- Study Skills and Time Management programs to support the learning of students in Years 7 - 12
- Study Conferences for Years 11 and 12 to assist with examination preparation, time management and study skills
- An Academic Mentor Program for Year 12 students involving academic staff leaders working daily with small groups of students
- A rigorous approach to the analysis of NAPLAN, and School Certificate results each year leading to improved student learning outcomes
- Comprehensive Academic Reports, including Settling In Reports for new students, to provide parents with the best possible information on the learning progress of their child
- Large and well-equipped library featuring comprehensive physical and electronic collections, excellent ICT respources, and 'after hours' study supervised by teaching staff and talented alumni
- A 1:1 Tablet PC Program to support student learning with fully-resourced hybrid Tablet/Laptops provided to each student in Years 7-11 in 2013
