Parents

The Hills Grammar School is a close community with parents being welcomed to participate in school life in a variety of ways.

Parents are encouraged to add to the life of the school through active membership of the Parents and Friends Association and Class Parent Network. Parents also contribute as: mentors in Australian Business Week, mentors for students in specific senior courses; guest speakers for classes throughout the school from Early Childhood Education Centre to Year 12; sporting coaches and managers; canteen helpers, classroom reading and mathematics group leaders and other varied roles.

Parents can view the Daily Communication Bulletin and fortnightly Newsletter, online through the school's intranet, HillsNet. We also encourage parents to follow the Hills Grammar Facebook page for weekly snippets of news from the whole community.

Parents and Friends Association (PAFA)

The PAFA committee meets monthly and aims to provide social and fundraising opportunities for all families, ECEC (Early Childhood Education Centre) to Year 12. Engaging families in fun and rewarding activities adds to the sense of community. The PAFA has provided the funds for many useful resources for our students over the years, such as school mini-bus, interactive whiteboards, air-conditioning, electronic scoreboard for the oval, playground equipment and much more.

The PAFA Parent Education Program aims to assist parents in their daily lives interacting with their children, inform and educate them on specific school programs and initiatives, demystify new structures and routines as their children move through the school and provide forums for discussion.

Class Parents assist PAFA by coordinating and supporting events and activities.

PAFA has recently joined the NSW Parents’ Council for the benefit of our parents and independent school advocacy.

PAFA also co-ordinates the Second Hand Uniform Shop.

Class Parents

Class Parents are self-selected representatives of year groups from ECEC to Year 12. The charter is very simple and effective. Class Parents provide social activities for year groups throughout the year such as morning teas, lunches, holiday activities and other casual get-togethers. This is a great way for families to meet and catch up outside school hours.

The Class Parent network also provides support for staff as requested and families during difficult times. They meet each term with the Director of Community Relations & Marketing where ideas are discussed, events are reported on and generally a guest speaker will give information and provide a forum for new initiatives and programs in the school.
