Expressions of Interest - Chair of School Council

Succession planning enables an organisation to refresh its leadership, the aim being to have the right person able to fill a vacancy at the right time. The School Council has a process for succession planning to facilitate the orderly transition and renewal of the Office Bearer roles of Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, along with its standing committee Chair positions. Consistent with the adoption of constitutionally mandated tenure limits for all Council members, our process involves Councillors transparently sharing and discussing their intentions for future Council service.

The role and responsibilities of Chair is outlined in the School's approved core Governance Principles.

Council elects its Office Bearers on an annual basis, in accordance with the School’s Constitution, as soon as practicable following the Annual General Meeting (which is held in May). As part of our succession process, I have advised Council and the Principal of my intention to retire as Chair at the 2018 AGM, and through this School newsletter am now letting the school community know. At May 2018, I’ll have served as Council Chair for 4 years and will have been a Council Member for about 8 years.

Council is accepting expressions of interest for its future Chair. The invitation is issued to the school and wider community and existing Council members and the process of appointment will follow the School’s Constitution and Council’s selection processes.

Renewal of leadership is healthy, especially in a school with an ethos like Hills Grammar which embraces the philosophies of ‘extraordinary’, ‘innovation’, ‘inspiration’ and ‘creativity’. While there are obvious advantages to continuity and consistency, leadership renewal brings fresh ideas, energy and perspective, and these are essential to long term sustainability.

On behalf of the School’s governing body, Council is accepting expressions of interest for its future Chair. The invitation is issued to the school and wider community and existing Council members and the process of appointment will follow the School’s Constitution and Council’s selection processes.

I strongly believe in and support these concepts for Hills Grammar and I’m looking forward to supporting the successful transition to a new Council Chair.

In order to indicate an interest in being considered for appointment as Chair. Individuals are asked to submit the online application below.

All applications will be reviewed and assessed confidentially by Council based on the criteria explained in the online application, which also identifies the categories of people who are constitutionally excluded from becoming Councillors. Selected candidates will be invited for more detailed discussion and an interview.
